Mouth Piece Storytelling – A Much Needed Update!

cropped-mouthpiecelogoonwhite1.jpg

Ah…it’s August already! Our apologies for being all quiet on the Mouth Piece front! Here’s what’s been going on…

THE EVENTS

June 30 – The Music Edition – was a complete and utter success! Held at Phog, we had full house, fabulous music, delicious cupcakes, and outstanding stories! I have loads of photos that I still need to post! Our Master Mouth Piece is Storyteller Jodi!

The next Mouth Piece event should take place in September…except…our host (that’s me!) is launching her new book of poetry and beginning a small but mighty book tour. Therefore, the choice has been made to not have another Mouth Piece event in September, and to wait until the Master Mouth Off event that will happen in early December. It is possible to have this event, however, it would add to an already packed and stressful month for our host, and likely, for everyone who will have wrapped up a hot summer and will be heading back to school, getting kids back to school, and/or feeling the heaviness and quiet joy at another season change.

The Master Mouth Off will be our first ever storytelling competition where the Master Mouth Pieces of the past year will compete for grand prizes. Over the next couple of months, much planning will go into this event to make it outstanding for all.

THE PODCASTS

This has been the most challenging part for us! In keeping with our commitment to recording each show live and creating podcasts for digital safe-keeping of all the stories until the end of time (!), which we have done, we still are behind in getting the podcasts produced and posted. It will become our main focus during the rest of the summer to complete the remaining three shows that need to get to podcast. Without a September event, we will use our time and energy to get these podcasts finished.

STILL WANT TO STORY TELL?

There are four incredible storytelling events that take place monthly just across that green-golden river in Michigan. Please stay connected to them and scoot over to attend and/or participate in any of these story telling events.

  1. The Moth – happens the first Thursday of every month at The Marble Bar. Hosted by Alex Trajano and produced by Patricia Wheeler of WDET, this is an outstanding story telling series that is a hot, hot ticket. It also takes place in Ann Arbor, hosted by the great Satori Shakoor, on the third Tuesday of every month at Circus.
  2. Homemade Stories with Shannon Cason – happens the last Monday of every month at Cliff Bell‘s in downtown Detroit. You’ve met him. You’ve heard his stories. Now join him in his storytelling series at Cliff Bell’s!
  3. The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers – created and hosted by Satori Shakoor, this storytelling gift happens at various locations and times – and is always incredible!
  4. For local juiciness, I suggest going to a Windsor Poetry Slam event. Windsor’s Poetry Slam team is incredibly impressive, passionate, emotional and downright entertaining.

Thank you again for support and participation…and your beautiful patience!

SPONSOR UPDATE! THANK YOU WINDSOR FAMILY DENTISTRY!

YAHOO! THANK YOU TO WINDSOR FAMILY DENTISTRY!!!

windsor-family-dentistry-facebook-logo

Dr. David Pelka and Dr. Bob Laughland of Windsor Family Dentistry are special sponsors for our upcoming Mouth Piece Storytelling Music Edition! Without the support of local businesses like Windsor Family Dentistry, our sweet little storytelling series would wither right up! We are so very grateful for this one-time, generous sponsor.

As you know, Mouth Piece Storytelling is a free event, and we’d like to keep it that way. Because of our ongoing sponsorship support from Suede Productions, and sponsors from Spotvin Creatives (now Tango), and Windsor Family Dentistry we wouldn’t be able to do important things like pay our creative people, upkeep our tech gear, and keep up with our social media and marketing.

THANK YOU! THIS IS A STORY THAT WE ARE GRATEFUL TO TELL – LOCAL BUSINESSES SUPPORT LOCAL ART!!

Come to our next event – The Music Edition! See you there!

Mouth Piece – The Music Edition – Guest Storyteller & Musical Guests Announced!

balelec-poster-last

Check it out rock stars! Our line-up for Mouth Piece Storytelling – The Music Edition is here! This will be a night of music and stories the likes of which you’ve never known!

Yes, we’ll be gathering at Phog Lounge (157 University Ave. W) in downtown Windsor to pump up the jams – and the stories. Special Guest Storyteller and the best dang radio host (from 93.9FM The River) around, Dan MacDonald will be delivering a story about music we will never forget. Dan has graced many stages including the Grown Ups Read Things They Wrote As Kids (if you’ve never heard of this incredible storytelling [remembering!] show, be sure to click on the link!) show stage as well as the hottest drag queen ever in the DRAG Trilogy by playwright Christopher Lawrence Menard over at the Korda Artistic Productions stage…and, well, golly, there’s just too many to mention! Let’s just say, Dan’s the man, and you’re gonna love him!

Because the theme of the event is MUSIC, we thought it would be fun to sprinkle some live music in the show between the storytelling (you think that’s a grand idea too! Super!). We’ll be starting the event at 7:30pm sharp with a surprise musical performance, followed by Dan’s story, and then we’ll get into the storytelling with YOU dear storytellers!

Special musical guests are cellist Nadine Deleury (have you ever heard the soul-shuddering sound of a cello?!) and blues guitarist Tom McWilliams. We’ve got classical. We’ve got blues. We’ve some surprises, and of course, DJ Cam will be spinning all nighty-night so BRING YOUR DANCING SHOES AND DANCE. That is, after you tell and/or listen to the STORIES ABOUT MUSIC!

As always, this event is FREE. Because stories need to be shared and heard with love between humans.

We’re hoping for 10 storytellers. The rules of the competition are the same. Click here to find out what they are!

We’ve got some fabulous prizes for the Master Mouth Piece – and don’t forget, if you win this honour, you’ll move on the compete in the Master Mouth Off this December.

Okay. So what kind of stories can you tell? ANYTHING RELATED TO MUSIC. The first song you *insert any magical and/or not-so-magical moment that happened with a song in the background*. The best concert you ever saw/experienced and why. Were you in a school music and you’re voice cracked – tell us this story? Did you audition for a musical and it was a disaster or a success? TELL US. Did you dream of meeting a famous musician – then you met him/her – what the heck happened?! Can you play a musical instrument – tell us the story of you learning how…oh, there are just so many stories where music is involved. Put on your favourite song – and start thinking of your story!

Oh, and did we mention we’d LOVE IT IF YOU STAYED TO DANCE? Please do! Make it a night out! Guess what – the next day is a holiday because it’s July 1st!!

Thanks all! Mark your calendars. Get your stories ready. Bring your dancing shoes. Let the stories about music rock us!

Mouth Piece Storytelling – The Music Edition! Thursday, June 30th!

It’s confirmed! Our next Mouth Piece Storytelling event will take place at Phog Lounge on Thursday, June 30th for The Music Edition! We haven’t confirmed a Guest Storyteller or our musical guests – but we’re on it!

NOTE: I know at our last event, I picked from the basket for the next theme, and the theme was ‘Mental Health Awareness’. I am working on a special event for this as this is a very important theme. I want to make sure that the event takes place is a space that is safe and special. So I need a bit more time to prepare. It’s going to happen, but not just yet. Thanks for your patience!
